Hackers hit 1,000 Symrise computers in Clop ransomware attack

A leading German producer of food flavorings, Symrise, was struck by the hacker group Clop. The attackers stole 500 GB of data and encrypted 1,000 of the company’s devices, according to Bleeping Computer.

“To assess the scale of the incident and prevent further negative consequences, the company halted all major systems,” a Symrise spokesperson said.

\n

The attack was claimed by the hacker group Clop. The group has posted some of the stolen files on its site, including passports, accounting documents, audit reports, email addresses, and secret cosmetic ingredients.

\n

Symrise’s flavorings are in global demand — they are used in some 30,000 different products, including those from Nestlé, Coca-Cola and Unilever. The company employs 10,000 people.

Earlier, the Clop group attacked Maastricht University, the major software developer Software AG, the South Korean conglomerate E-Land Group and the company ExecuPharm.

\n

Earlier, the Taiwanese giant Foxconn fell victim to the DoppelPaymer ransomware. The hackers demanded 1,804 BTC from the company.
