The Toronto Stock Exchange- and Nasdaq-listed company HIVE Blockchain Technologies has ordered 1,800 Antminer S19j Pro miners from Chinese manufacturer Bitmain Technologies.
According to a press release, the deal is the first under the 2022 equipment procurement program. The batch will be delivered in six tranches of 300 units, starting from January to June.
The devices are expected to deliver a total hash rate of 180 PH/s.
This deal with Bitmain allows us to support our strategy of diversifying the manufacturers from which we purchase. Over the past year we have expressed concerns about global chip shortages and logistical delays in delivering equipment from Asia due to the pandemic. We have close relationships with Bitmain, MicroBT, and Canaan, which are leading global manufacturers in our industry, said Frank Holmes, executive chairman of HIVE.
The company said it holds 25,000 ETH and 875 BTC in cold wallets. All bitcoins in the firm’s reserves, valued at about $100 million, were mined using green energy.
Back in June 2021, HIVE purchased 3,019 WhatsMiner M30S miners from MicroBT.
In August, the Canadian company ordered 4,000 ASIC miners from Canaan. This complemented the January contract for the supply of 6,400 AvalonMiner 1246 devices.
