Hollywood to Adapt Book on Ethereum and Vitalik Buterin

Scott Free Productions, linked to Ridley Scott, will produce a film based on the book The Infinite Machine, about the origins of the Ethereum blockchain. Deadline reports.

The author of the book is industry journalist Camilla Russo. The edition was published in 2020 and tells how 19-year-old Buterin rallied a group of developers around the idea of creating a "world computer".

The pages tell the story of the challenges facing the team—from heightened regulatory oversight to the emergence of interest from Wall Street and the platform’s scaling difficulties.

Ridley Scott, known for blockbuster films Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner and The Martian, will become a co-producer of the project. He will be aided by Camilla Russo and Francisco Gordillo, the co-founder of the cryptocurrency hedge fund Avenue Investment. Shiam Madiraju will write the screenplay and direct the film.

Scott Free Productions is known for films such as The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and House of Gucci, with Al Pacino and Lady Gaga. Soon to hit theatres are Napoleon starring Joaquin Phoenix, The Boston Strangler with Keira Knightley, and a new installment in the Alien franchise.

In July 2021, a crowdfunding campaign for the documentary Ethereum and Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum: The Infinite Garden, was launched.

Earlier Netflix announced plans to shoot a documentary about Gerald Cotten, the founder of the Bitcoin exchange QuadrigaCX.
