Illegal Cryptocurrency Mining Costs Russia Over 1.3 Billion Rubles in 2024

The Rosseti Group of Companies reported losses exceeding 1.3 billion rubles due to illegal mining activities in 2024.

Losses were recorded in regional companies:

The largest incident was recorded in Novosibirsk, where the owner of an illegal farm connected more than 3,200 mining rigs. The damage is estimated at 197 million rubles.

The company stated that unauthorized mining leads to overloaded power grids and sharp voltage drops, causing household and industrial devices to fail.

Over the year, specialists stopped 130 illegal connections. More than 40 cases were handed over to law enforcement agencies. Offenders face criminal charges with potential prison sentences.

Previously, the damage from electricity theft for mining in Russia was estimated at 10 billion rubles annually.

Earlier in February, Dagestan police discovered an illegal mining farm. A total of 378 devices were seized.
