The collaboration between the companies is designed to provide new developers with an entry into the crypto market and access to a user-friendly ecosystem.
As part of the project, Immutable plans to use zero-knowledge proofs from Polygon. A platform for game developers will be built on it.
“We are creating an Ethereum-focused gaming ecosystem that will make Web3 mainstream and empower millions of people around the world with digital ownership,” said Robby Ferguson, president and co-founder of Immutable.
Polygon Labs head Ryan Wyatt noted that the technologies will allow them to focus on building a quality game rather than directing resources to building the network for it.
The testnet is expected to launch by the end of Q2 2023, and interfaces for working on zkEVM are already available.
MATIC will be the “governance token”, and Immutable’s native coin (IMX) the “primary currency for paying gas”.
According to Ferguson, the platform’s potential success means that “digital property rights in games are the norm”, and they belong to “the users, not giant corporations”.
At the time of writing, the IMX token trades at $1.25, down 13.35% in 24 hours.
In the wake of the announcement, journalist Colin Wu reported that 1.5 million IMX were moved to Binance from an address previously suspected of insider trading. Wu said the potential profit to the user could reach $750,000.

In February 2023, Immutable introduced a cryptocurrency wallet aimed at Web3 gamers. The Passport project is also used to manage the player’s profile and authentication.
In March, Polygon introduced the domain name service, developed in collaboration with Unstoppable Domains.
