
In Crimea, two suspects detained for buying cryptocurrency mining equipment with counterfeit money
The Ministry of Internal Affairs for Crimea said that two suspects were detained for buying cryptocurrency mining equipment with counterfeit money.
According to the investigation, in February–March 2021 the perpetrators acquired counterfeit notes with a denomination of 5,000 rubles on one of the websites. Subsequently they found advertisements for the sale of video cards and other mining equipment, which they purchased using the counterfeit funds.
According to law enforcement officials, they concluded at least three such deals.
Two suspects were detained, and a criminal case has been opened.
Earlier, a court in the Nizhny Novgorod region began examining the criminal case of an interregional criminal group that, over two years, managed to to print and sell around 1 billion counterfeit rubles via the darknet.
