On June 8, 2022, the Ethereum development team will migrate the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm for the Ropsten test network. The code for the corresponding pull request has already been published in the GitHub repository.
Ropsten testnet is getting merged on June 8!
Merging Ropsten is a huge testing milestone towards Ethereum’s mainnet merge later this year. 🎉 https://t.co/X7eLIMA72g

The testing of the ‘merge’ will proceed in two phases. On 30 May, developers will deploy the blockchain’s consensus layer. They will then merge it with the Ropsten testnet, transferring the latter to the PoS algorithm.
Ropsten is one of Ethereum’s test networks, created by the development team in 2017. It is regarded as the best mainnet replica because it has a similar structure.
In April, Ethereum developer Tim Beiko stated that the second-largest cryptocurrency network would move to PoS within “a few months after the previously indicated June”.
The merging of Ropsten with the PoS consensus layer aligns with this plan. Earlier this week, the project team also merged bounty programs for the mainnet and the Proof-of-Stake consensus layer. The maximum reward was increased to $250 000.
conducted a shadow fork of the mainnet in May for stress-testing the process of merging blockchains as part of the transition to the PoS algorithm.
