Intel to unveil a ‘highly efficient’ ASIC Bitcoin miner
Intel, one of the world’s largest chipmakers, plans to unveil a specialized Bitcoin-mining chip at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference ISSCC in February. This follows from the event’s program.
One of the chips slated for demonstration on February 23, 2022 is named Bonanza Mine. The header states that it is a ‘low-voltage, high-efficiency ASIC-miner’ for the first cryptocurrency.
The program notes that ‘real-world applications made possible by new integrated circuits will be showcased’.
In a recent interview with YouTube streamer interview, Raja Koduri, head of Intel’s graphics division, said that the company is preparing a specialized solution for the blockchain space while discussing the launch of the Arc Alchemist gaming GPUs.
The executive signaled that no additional steps would be taken to shield the new GPUs from miners, while Intel would prefer that its GPUs not be used for mining digital assets.
Back in 2018, Intel filed a patent application for a hardware ‘mining accelerator’ designed to reduce energy costs in the mining of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
