The Hong Kong-based blockchain company IOHK, behind the cryptocurrency Cardano (ADA), has allocated a grant of $125,000 to the newly formed nonprofit organization Haskell Foundation. It will promote the Haskell programming language, which underpins the Cardano blockchain.
Hey Haskell, heard you needed a Foundation: https://t.co/CHD2GrKkYH glad to be part of the movement

The Haskell Foundation is tasked with developing the ecosystem of Haskell tools and libraries, expanding the use of the language by developers, and addressing education and research matters.
The decision was announced during the virtual Haskell eXchange. IOHK has effectively supported the project for several years.
Haskell is a standardized pure functional general-purpose programming language that integrates easily with other languages. The Ouroboros protocol, the backbone of the Cardano network, is written in Haskell. The Haskell developers also created the Plutus smart-contract language, which is also used in this blockchain.
“IOHK believes in the power of functional programming, open-source software, and open governance. We are pleased to have the opportunity to join other key companies in supporting the future growth and deployment of Haskell,” commented IOHK CEO Charles Hoskinson.
In one of his podcasts, Hoskinson stated his aim to make Cardano compatible with decentralized-finance platforms.
In July, developers activated the Shelley upgrade on the Cardano mainnet. It is expected that the forthcoming phases, Voltaire and Goguen, will enable robust governance mechanisms and smart contracts.
