Jack Dorsey backs Bitcoin-friendly Democratic presidential candidate Robert Francis Kennedy Jr.

Block CEO Jack Dorsey expressed support for the U.S. presidential candidate Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., who advocates digital assets.

“He can and will,” wrote Dorsey.

Asked by a user whether he endorses or merely predicts his candidate’s victory, the former Twitter chief said: ‘both’.

Kennedy Jr., nephew of the 35th U.S. president, is a member of the Democratic Party and a proponent of cryptocurrencies. In April he stated that Bitcoin and other digital assets serve as an alternative to the traditional financial system.

In May the politician began accepting donations in digital gold and during the Bitcoin 2023 conference called it ‘a symbol of democracy and freedom’. Previously he criticized SEC and FDIC for ‘a war against cryptocurrencies’, which led to a banking crisis in the country.

The presidential candidate also spoke out against CBDC. In his view, the digital dollar will become ‘the ultimate mechanism of social monitoring and control’.

According to a Cato Institute poll, only 16% of Americans backed the idea of CBDC, while 34% opposed the technology’s adoption.

Nearly half of those polled did not have a firm opinion. At the same time, only 28% of respondents had any idea about its development.

Opposition to CBDC also comes from Kennedy’s rival — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In May he signed a law against the digital dollar prohibiting its issuance and use within the state.

Earlier this year in the United States prepared the ‘first bipartisan’ bill that would prohibit the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency. According to the bill’s authors, the measure is meant to protect the country from ‘government overreach’.
