Bluesky — a decentralized alternative to Twitter, backed by co-founder and former CEO of the social network Jack Dorsey — closed a seed round of funding totaling $8 million.

It was led by the Neo firm, with participation from a number of investors: Red Hat co-founder Bob Young, Kubernetes developer Joe Beda, Replit founder Amjad Masad, and others.

The funds will be used to expand the team, cover operating expenses and infrastructure, and to develop the AT Protocol, on which the platform operates.

Bluesky also announced its first paid feature — a personal domain as a username. To this end, the social network has entered into a partnership with domain registrar Namecheap.

In March, Bluesky appeared in the App Store for iOS.

In July, Meta launched its Twitter alternative called Threads. In Elon Musk’s company, threatened to sue Mark Zuckerberg’s corporation.
