Kazakhstan to open one of the world’s largest mining data centres

In September, Enegix plans to open in Kazakhstan one of the world’s largest data centres, with a capacity of 180 megawatts. ForkLog has learned from Enegix representatives.

The data centre is located in Ekibastuz. According to the company’s presentation, land for construction was provided by local authorities, and more than $24 million has already been invested in infrastructure. In preliminary estimates, the centre could house up to 50,000 mining devices.

According to representatives, Enegix will receive electricity from KEGOC, the country’s electricity grid operator (Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company). The contract has been signed with an intermediary.

\n

The data centre has already been visited by representatives of BTC.com, ViaBTC, Canaan and Innosilicon.

\n

Enegix emphasise that one of the main advantages of mining in Kazakhstan is the legality of cryptocurrency mining.

\n

Earlier this year, Kazakh authorities passed a number of amendments to legislation affecting blockchain, digital assets and mining.

\n

Under these amendments, miners are granted ownership of the mined coins. The amendments, however, do not include provisions directly addressing the taxation of miners.

\n

According to Askar Zhumagaliev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, mining farms have already brought the country more than $200 million, with investments of $750 million expected in the coming years.
