A resident of Kemerovo fell victim to scammers who pretended to offer investments in cryptocurrency and extorted 3 million rubles. The МВД reports.
According to authorities, the man invested 600,000 rubles ten years ago through an online brokerage firm in shares, but never received any profit.
In April 2021, an unknown person contacted him, presenting himself as an employee of a company that helps victims of fraud. He claimed to be issuing compensation to the victim, but advised him to invest the money in cryptocurrency.
To obtain ‘dividends’, the resident transferred about 800,000 rubles to the account specified by the attacker. After that, he was promised even greater profits from the rise in cryptocurrency prices.
As a result, the man sold the inherited house and travelled to Novosibirsk, where he handed over 2.2 million rubles to a courier. The latter promised the Kemerovo resident that a company specialist would contact him soon, but this did not happen.
The police began an investigation and opened a criminal case for fraud.
Earlier, a resident of Salekhard fell victim to scammers who promised her earnings on a cryptocurrency exchange and lost more than 7 million rubles.
