Ledger to launch Visa cryptocurrency card

Hardware wallet maker Ledger announced the launch in the first quarter of 2022 of the Crypto Life card on the Visa network. It will offer instant conversion of digital assets into fiat at the point of purchase and the ability to lend against cryptocurrency.

The fintech company Baanx Group will support the initiative. Cardholders will be able to pay for purchases at more than 50 million Visa locations worldwide. To transfer funds, they will need to use the Ledger Live app.

Crypto Life will be available to residents of the United Kingdom, France and Germany. It is expected to be available to residents of the United States starting from the second quarter of 2022. The company has opened a waitlist.

Initially the card will support BTC, ETH, USDT, EURT, USDC, XRP, BXX, BCH and LTC.

The overdraft interest rate will start at 0% APR, depending on the region.

Ledger will offer a salary-conversion option into ETH, Bitcoin and stablecoins for the Crypto Life account.

The card launch will be carried out as part of a strategy to transform into a crypto platform based on Ledger Live. It envisions expanding the product line, integrating transactional services, including oriented towards DeFi, and developing its own operating system.

At the LedgerOp3n conference, Chief Product Officer Charles Guillemet announced the integration of support for NFT released on various blockchains. In January, users will be able to use all features of the Rarible marketplace.

«You will be able to use tokens directly from Ledger Live. From creation to collection and trading. The wallet will connect automatically; no extension will be required», — said he.

«An excellent user interface — for wallets, exchanges, identity, dapps, NFTs, DeFi […] — will be the bridge that will help Web3 empower more people», — explained Carl B. Anderson, a developer at the company.

Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier announced a partnership with FTX. Users will be able to trade leveraged crypto derivatives on the platform via Ledger Live. He also announced added support for the Coinbase Wallet.

In June, Ledger raised $380 million, valuing the company at $1.5 billion.
