Litecoin developers ready to activate Mimblewimble upgrade

The lead developer of the Mimblewimble Extension Block (MWEB) upgrade, David Burkett, confirmed its readiness for activation on Litecoin’s mainnet.

MWEB will be included in the Litecoin Core 0.21.2 release. It also includes the Taproot upgrade, previously activated in the Bitcoin network.

Mimblewimble — is a protocol with broad scalability and enhanced privacy. It uses several technologies, including confidential transactions and CoinJoin, which hides the inputs and outputs of senders and recipients and aggregates multiple transactions into one.

The MWEB solution will allow users to conceal transaction data when needed.

\n\n\n\n

\”This is an important next step in the evolution of Litecoin. Optional privacy in MWEB provides users with significant and necessary protection for small everyday things, salaries, or even buying a house,\” said Burkett.

\n\n\n\n

The code for the solution has undergone an audit by Quarkslab. Upon its final release, miners will be able to signal activation in the block’s version field.

Activation will occur after reaching a 75% threshold of support signals within an 8,064-block window.

\n\n\n\n

In 2020, developers integrated the Mimblewimble protocol into a specially created Litecoin test network.
