Litecoin’s X account promoted a fake memecoin

In recent days, X accounts belonging to several cryptocurrency and venture projects were hijacked to promote scams, The Block reported.

Among the compromised was Litecoin’s page with 1.1 million followers. It was used to advertise a fake memecoin. The team regained control of the account and apologised for the incident.

“The unauthorized posts were live for only a few seconds. We are still investigating the issue, but immediately found a compromised account and removed it,” they wrote.

Foresight Ventures’ X account with 28,000 followers was also hacked to announce tokens.

Through the account of LayerZero Labs’ CTO, Ryan Zarick, the attackers announced an airdrop.

The campaign also hit the project Holoworld AI with more than 150,000 followers.

Judging by comments in the thread, some users were affected by the fake announcements. The scale of losses is unknown.

In late 2024, on-chain detective ZachXBT reported an X-account hacker who profited from a crypto scam to the tune of $500 000.

According to PeckShield, cumulative losses to malicious actors in the crypto industry exceeded $3.01 billion in 2024.
