McDonald’s China launches NFT collection to mark 31st anniversary

McDonald’s China has released a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to mark its 31st anniversary.

McDonald’s will distribute 188 NFTs—Big Mac Rubik’s Cube—on the Conflux blockchain among staff and customers of its outlets.

The tokens’ design is inspired by the exterior of the company’s new office, built specifically for the anniversary of the launch.

The controlling stake in McDonald’s China is held by the state investment company CITIC Group. The branch issued the NFT against the backdrop of further crackdowns by China against the crypto industry.

In September 2021, Burger King launched the NFT campaign Keep It Real Meals with performers Nelly, Anitta and LILHUDDY.

In the same month, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Starbucks in El Salvador began accepting bitcoin as payment after the entry into force the first cryptocurrency legalization law.

In April 2020, McDonald’s China participated in testing the digital yuan.
