Media: Apple Drops Metaverse Concept for Mixed-Reality Headset
Apple has rejected the idea of a metaverse for its mixed-reality headset. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, developers will focus mainly on communication, content consumption, and games.

Gurman sources say that the metaverse concept, as seen in Meta, is effectively off-limits at the company.
“AR headset is Apple’s real priority because it can be worn all day and, naturally, won’t pull people out of the real environment,” the journalist said.
Rumours suggest that Apple will unveil an augmented-reality or mixed-reality device in the second half of 2022, but its specifications and target audience remain undetermined. Renowned product analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested the headset would feature 4K displays and six to eight cameras to track the user and the surrounding environment.
There is no information on the device’s price. However, according to Kuo, its “modest” specifications would allow most users to buy it.
In late December 2021, media reported active development of augmented-reality glasses by Google. The device was said to compete with Apple’s similar product.
In December, Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple’s mixed-reality headsets will replace smartphones within the next ten years.
