Media: Binance Withdraws License Application in Austria

The cryptocurrency exchange Binance has withdrawn its application for a license from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). The report, citing informed sources, appeared in FinanceFWD.

Earlier, the company took a similar decision regarding applications submitted to authorities Netherlands, Cyprus and United Kingdom.

In a discussion with The Block, platform representatives neither confirmed nor denied the information.

«Currently, our focus in Europe is on ensuring full compliance with the requirements of MiCA», the organisation explained.

According to FinanceFWD, the FMA was exerting pressure on Binance Austria’s local subsidiary.

The company has licenses in several European countries, including France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden and Lithuania.

In June, media reported that the Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into suspected money laundering by the platform.

Subsequently, it emerged that the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority ordered Binance to immediately cease providing digital-asset-related services in the country.

On June 5, SEC filed a lawsuit against the exchange and its CEO Changpeng Zhao. The regulator brought 13 charges, including the sale of unregistered securities.

Recently, the company’s regional manager Alex Chehayd said that Binance views the UAE as a ‘key hub’ for its business.
