Media: Bitcoins worth $28m found with Moscow investigator
The head of the Investigations Department of Moscow’s Tverskoy District Committee, Marat Tambiev, was accused of taking a bribe of 1,032.1 BTC (more than $28 million) from suspects in a hacking case. The «Коммерсант» reports.
According to investigators, the suspect received cryptocurrency on April 7, 2022 from members of the hacker group Infraud Organization, Mark Bergmanov and Konstantin Bergmanov, as well as Kirill Samokutyaevsky, for not freezing their assets.
Bitcoin was found during the corruption investigation into Tambiev. The wallet access code was allegedly stored by the investigator in a folder labeled “Pension”.
On June 5, 2023, a court will hear a suit seeking to confiscate Tambiev’s illicit proceeds, the outlet reports.
In 2022 Russian courts handed down almost 15% more crypto-related rulings than the year before — 1,758 against 1,531.
