Media: Hackers put 10,000 Robinhood user passwords up for sale

Cybercriminals posted on the dark web offers to sell access to thousands of accounts, presumably linked to the crypto-friendly platform Robinhood. Bloomberg reports.

Journalists claim that 10,000 passwords for Robinhood accounts made it to the dark web market. Compared with stolen credentials for another major broker, TD Ameritrade, Robinhood’s figure is ten times higher.

According to the publication, hackers primarily operate by compromising email accounts: they request a password reset and intercept the notification. Robinhood said that a stolen email is not enough to compromise an account.

Earlier in October, media reported that hackers gained access to about two thousand Robinhood accounts. The platform did not disclose the extent of the damage and recommended that users enable two-factor authentication.
