Media: Mobile wallet for the digital yuan tops app-store charts

Pilot e-CNY wallet tops China’s app-store charts in first week.

In the first week after launch, the pilot version of the mobile wallet for using the digital yuan (e-CNY) topped the app-store charts in China. This was reported by SCMP.

According to App Annie, downloads of the app in the App Store surpassed the figure for WeChat with built-in mobile payments. On Saturday, January 8, the e-CNY wallet ceded first place to the video service Kuaishou.

During the week, the digital yuan wallet also led Xiaomi’s app store.

Earlier in January, Chinese authorities launched the mobile application for using e-CNY.

To download it, users must be physically located at one of the testing sites, including the area hosting the Winter Olympic Games.

The initiative is attributed to the Digital Currency Institute of the People’s Bank of China.
