Media: Netflix to film about Reddit–Wall Street clash over GameStop stock

The streaming service Netflix plans to release a film about the confrontation between users of the r/WallStreetBets subreddit and Wall Street. Deadline reports this, citing informed sources.

According to them, Netflix is using the story of the GameStop stock pump to illustrate the influence of social media on society. The company is in talks with screenwriter Mark Boal, who worked on The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, the sources noted.

The publication claims that the lead role will be played by actor Noah Centineo, known for the film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. As a consultant, they are reportedly considering NYU professor and author of The Four: The Hidden DNA of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google, Scott Galloway.

Earlier, Deadline sources reported that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer acquired the film rights to Ben Mezrich’s forthcoming book about the ‘war’ between Reddit and Wall Street. The sources named as executive producers of the film are the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange founders, brothers Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

As noted, on January 27 the price of GameStop stock on the New York Stock Exchange reached $347 after a call in the r/WallStreetBets group not to let big players sink the company.
