Media reports: FSB detains suspects in extortion of 10 million rubles from a cryptocurrency businessman

In a St. Petersburg airport, law enforcement officers detained a suspect who, posing as an FSB officer, attempted to defraud a cryptocurrency entrepreneur. The report comes from «Фонтанка».

According to the publication, in April the entrepreneur from St. Petersburg underwent searches. He contacted a certain Alexander Nezhelsky, who presented himself as an FSB colonel and promised to assist in solving his problems for 10 million rubles.

Later the entrepreneur contacted the FSB in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region, stating that the amount was inflated.

On May 26, Alexander Nezhelsky was detained at the airport. He pointed to his accomplice – a senior investigator in the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to the detainee’s testimony, the search conducted on the entrepreneur was a sham, and they decided to profit from it. Nezhelsky also said that he is a fighter with a private military company.

A criminal case has been opened against both suspects for fraud on a particularly large scale.

Earlier in February, a court sentenced two former FSB investigators Sergei Belousov and Alexey Kolbov to nine and twelve years in a strict-regime penal colony for extortion of a large bribe paid in cryptocurrency.
