The investigation into the criminal case against the hacking group REvil, alleged members of which were detained by the Russian FSB, has stalled due to a lack of sufficient information about victims and the damage caused. According to «Ъ».

According to the publication, the lawyers of one of the defendants have turned to Oleg Khramov, the deputy head of the Security Council, who previously stated that the American side unilaterally withdrew from the negotiation process after the detention of REvil members.

The lawyers noted that investigators from the Ministry of Internal Affairs were able to indict eight suspects only for illegal acquisition, storage and use of electronic means intended for illicit money transfers.

According to the investigators’ conclusion from the Company of United Credit Cards, the victims were two U.S. citizens. The defense noted that the investigation has no data on either the victims or the damage caused to them.

The lawyers noted that the investigation has virtually stalled due to a lack of information. One of the defendants, Dmitry Korotaev, has not been questioned even once during his time in pre-trial detention.

According to lawyer Igor Vagin, handing the criminal case to court without victims and damages is doomed to fail.

Experts say REvil, also known as Sodinokibi, is one of the world’s largest hacker groups. It is linked to several large-scale hacks — attackers distributed ransomware and demanded a ransom in cryptocurrency.

In January, the FSB announced the ‘liquidation’ of the REvil group and the detention of its alleged members on the basis of a request from U.S. authorities.
