Messi signs $20 million deal to promote fan tokens

The legendary footballer Lionel Messi signed a three-year deal to promote the Socios fan-token platform. The deal was worth $20 million.

As brand ambassador, Messi will participate in several advertising and educational campaigns.

“Fans deserve recognition. They should have the ability to influence the teams they love,” said the Paris Saint-Germain star.

In response to the news, the PSG token price rose by about 1.3% to $13.82, according to CoinMarketCap.

The Socios platform collaborates with more than 130 of the world’s leading sports organisations, including famous football clubs, the UFC mixed martial arts league UFC, «Formula 1» teams and esports stars.

Socios’ fan tokens based on the Ethereum blockchain offer holders exclusive benefits. Fans can vote on team jersey designs, choose entrance music before kick-off, and receive additional VIP rewards and souvenirs.

In August 2021, Lionel Messi became the first footballer in history to receive PSG club fan tokens as part of the signing bonus.
