The developers of the MetaMask crypto wallet have integrated a “social login” feature using Google and Apple ID services.
This feature allows users to register or log into a wallet created in this manner. After setting a password, a seed phrase is generated automatically and can be recovered using Web2 accounts.
The step aims to simplify digital asset management for users while maintaining a high level of security.
“No organization, not even MetaMask, can access all the data needed to obtain your seed phrase […]. Only social media credentials and a unique password can unlock it on the local device,” the team explained.
The company warned that password security remains critically important, as lost data cannot be recovered.
According to the technical documentation, the seed phrase created after registration is stored on the network and protected using the user’s Google or Apple login and password.
The MetaMask social login system uses a cryptographic primitive called a “Threshold Forgetting Pseudorandom Function” along with a distributed key management protocol.
Back in August, the crypto wallet team announced plans to launch the mUSD stablecoin.
