The MetaMask Ethereum wallet’s user base surpassed 1 million active users per month. The team regards this achievement as ‘the most important milestone for the entire ecosystem’.

As of May 2019, MetaMask had 264,000 users. Project representatives say that a key role in expanding the user base was played by the launch of the wallet’s mobile version in early September.

“Moreover, over the past 12 months, decentralized organisations, Web3 games, products and services in the DeFi sector have proliferated,” the statement notes.
The representatives say that users are more likely to turn to MetaMask to participate ‘in the decentralised finance revolution’. According to them, the trend of DeFi proliferation runs parallel to the wallet’s growing popularity.

In July, the eighth version of the MetaMask browser extension was introduced. The update improves privacy and refreshes the interface.
In August, the developers restricted free use of the extension’s source code. Commercial projects with more than 10,000 active users will need to enter into an official agreement with the company.
