Microsoft unveils the updated Bing search engine, built on a faster version of the ChatGPT chatbot.

The ‘New Bing’ supports 100 languages and operates in two configurations. The first shows traditional search results and an AI annotation on the right side of the screen. The second mode is presented as a dialog window where users can chat with the chatbot.
According to the announcement, Bing’s AI features run on OpenAI’s next-generation language model. It is more powerful than the one used in ChatGPT, and tailored specifically for search.
The model builds on the core knowledge and achievements of ChatGPT and GPT-3.5; it has become even faster, more accurate and more efficient, the press release says.
The company has also updated the main Bing search engine by integrating AI algorithms. As a result, the answers in the search results will be more precise and relevant, developers say.
Smart search will also be available in the Microsoft Edge browser. The chatbot can be summoned via a button on the side panel.
In the browser, the bot will be able to annotate PDF documents, cross-check information with open sources and generate a spreadsheet based on the search results.
Also during the presentation, developers showed how, with the feature, to rewrite a fragment of code from Stack Overflow in Rust or write a post on LinkedIn.
The updated Bing will be available to users in the coming weeks. The company noted that the rollout of features will occur ‘gradually’, and those interested can already sign up on the waiting list.
Microsoft also provided access to a limited number of sample search queries for all users.
In response to questions about the chatbot’s knowledge currency, Microsoft representatives said users would be ‘pleasantly surprised’ by the search engine’s capabilities. As is known, the base version of ChatGPT is limited to data up to 2021.
According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the search paradigm had not changed for decades. AI will take it to a completely new level, delivering information much faster, he added.
“The race starts today. And we will move very quickly,” he said.
Earlier, Microsoft integrated the GPT-3.5 language model into a number of enterprise services.
In January, Microsoft announced multiyear multibillion-dollar investments in OpenAI. According to some media reports, the deal amount amounts to $10 billion.
