MicroStrategy buys 5,445 BTC for $147 million

The analytics software provider MicroStrategy has added to its Bitcoin holdings, purchasing 5,445 BTC, according to founder Michael Saylor.

According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, between August 1 and September 24 the company bought Bitcoin for $147.3 million at an average price of $27,053.

According to Saylor, MicroStrategy owns 158,245 BTC worth about $4.68 billion (average price $29,582).

At the time of writing, the flagship cryptocurrency remained above $26,000. In the last 24 hours the asset fell 2.1%, according to CoinGecko.

In June, the software provider disclosed investments in Bitcoin for the second quarter — 12,333 BTC for $347 million. Earlier, the company invested $150 million in Bitcoin in March.

In August MicroStrategy bought another 467 BTC for $14.4 million. The only sale the firm made was in December 2022, selling 704 BTC at an average price of $16,776.

By the end of August, CoinGecko put MicroStrategy’s return on its cryptocurrency investment at 11.07%, equivalent to about $456.7 million in profit.
