A 28-year-old resident of Minsk has fallen victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam, according to a report from the local Investigative Committee.
The victim met a woman through a messaging app, who later introduced him to the idea of earning through digital assets. She offered to connect him with her acquaintances, described as “brokers.”
Following their advice, the Minsk resident registered on an online platform and initially deposited a small amount. Observing the apparent growth in returns, he took out a loan to purchase more cryptocurrency. In total, the victim invested approximately 65,000 Belarusian rubles ($19,800).
A month later, upon checking his returns, he found only empty wallets. The accounts of his contact and the “brokers” had been blocked.
A criminal case has been opened for fraud on a particularly large scale. Law enforcement is working to identify the fraudsters.
Earlier, ForkLog reported on the detention of two foreigners in Minsk who owned an illegal cryptocurrency exchange.
