Monero Community to Publish Guide on Listing Privacy-Centric Cryptocurrencies on Exchanges

The Monero cryptocurrency community (XMR) and privacy protocol developers from Tari Labs are preparing a guide for exchanges on handling privacy-focused cryptocurrencies. This was reported by Decrypt

The publication of the document, titled ‘Fundamental Factors and Regulation of Privacy-Preserving Cryptocurrencies’, will be handled by the law firm Perkins Coie.

“We believe that our white paper will present a comprehensive analysis of private tokens and the concerns surrounding them in the context of anti-money laundering enforcement,” said Tari Labs’ Chief Compliance Officer Louis Willasi.

The authors of the guide acknowledge that private coins carry higher risks, but these can be mitigated through improved compliance mechanisms.

“Regulated financial institutions can comply with anti-money laundering requirements when supporting private tokens,” added Willasi.

Last week Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said that despite his personal willingness to list Monero, he would not do so because of potential regulatory concerns.

Back in 2018, Monero was delisted by Korbit and Coincheck. Later, exchanges BitBay, Bithumb and Huobi Korea declined the coin. Delisting decisions were taken to protect investors and combat money laundering.

The Tari protocol, built on the Monero codebase, was led by Riccardo ‘Fluffypony’ Spagni, one of the founders of XMR. An interview with the creator of Monero will appear soon on ForkLog.
