Mongolian Citizen Caught Smuggling Mining Equipment from Russia
Customs officers at the MAPC Kyakhta in Buryatia thwarted an attempt to illegally export two ASIC miners to Mongolia. This was reported by the Federal Customs Service of Russia (FCS).
According to the agency, a Mongolian citizen attempted to transport two used Watsminer M21 miners, manufactured by MicroBT, in a taxi. The devices were not declared.
The woman claimed she was transporting the devices at the request of a stranger for a reward of 400 rubles.
Customs officials seized the ASIC miners and sent them for examination. The true owner of the devices is being identified.
Two administrative cases have been opened against the woman.
According to a recent order by the FCS, cryptocurrency mining equipment is prohibited from being exported from Russia at least until December 31, 2025.
Since March 2018, Russians have been required to declare mining equipment imported into the country.
