Montenegro Delays Do Kwon’s Extradition to the US

The Court of Appeals in Montenegro has overturned a previously approved decision to extradite Do Kwon to South Korea or the United States, granting a renewed appeal by the co-founder of Terraform Labs’ lawyers. This was reported by The Block.

In December, the court had already rejected the initial verdict, which was contested once more.

The court deemed the extradition requests from the US and Korea legally unfounded, as the procedure for such requests is not defined.

On March 23, Montenegrin police arrested Kwon and former Terraform CFO Han Chang-Joon while attempting to fly from Podgorica airport to Dubai using fake passports.

Joon was extradited to South Korea. According to local media, he faces charges of defrauding users and embezzling approximately $40 million.

In the US, Kwon is involved in a fraud case led by the SEC and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in New York.
