Moonbeam and Osmosis Build Cross-Chain Bridge Between Polkadot and Cosmos

The Moonbeam project team, in partnership with the DEX Osmosis, has enabled token swaps between the Polkadot and Cosmos ecosystems.

The cross-chain infrastructure is provided by the Axelar protocol. The project supports the cross-chain bridge and a platform for interoperability of smart contracts.

According to the statement, the native Polkadot token (DOT) will become the first available asset for the Osmosis ecosystem. Moonbeam expects to expand the list of tokens in the future.

“This integration via Axelar is an important step in establishing cross-chain interoperability, as well as delivering unified liquidity and user services in Web3”, the statement said.

Osmosis co-founder Sunny Aggarwal told Blockworks in an interview that he does not view Polkadot and Cosmos as competitors. In his words, they are simply ‘different frameworks for deploying decentralized applications’.

“The purpose of building these interoperability protocols is not only to interact within tiny ecosystems. Polkadot is a large space with many interesting assets. Our plan is to continue linking all possible ecosystems”, added Aggarwal.

Back in November 2021, Moonbeam secured a parachain slot on Polkadot after the second auction.
