Myanmar Military Raid on KK Park Scam Centre Prompts Mass Escape

Nearly 700 individuals fled KK Park in Myanmar after a military raid.

Nearly 700 individuals fled the fraudulent KK Park complex in Myanmar following a military raid. They crossed the Moei River and reached Thailand, according to the Bangkok Post.

The information was confirmed by the governor of Thailand’s Tak province. Local military sources reported that among those who fled were 618 men and 59 women, primarily citizens of India and China, with some from Vietnam, Pakistan, and Indonesia.

KK Park is one of the largest centres where internet scammers deceive people through fake investment and romantic schemes. Such complexes are prevalent along Myanmar’s border due to the country’s civil war.

The Thai authorities are providing humanitarian aid to the escapees. They will be screened to determine if they were victims of human trafficking or crossed the border illegally. Some workers are forced into these centres, while others arrive voluntarily, hoping for high earnings.

In February, authorities attempted to combat the scammers by shutting down border internet. However, an AFP investigation revealed that the construction of complexes continued. They began using Starlink satellite internet extensively to access the network.

On October 22, SpaceX Vice President of Business Operations Lauren Dreyer announced that the company had disabled about 2,500 terminals following reports of their illegal use.
