Nassim Taleb calls Bitcoin supporters amoebas

The philosopher and author of the cult work ‘The Black Swan’, Nassim Taleb, again criticised supporters of the first cryptocurrency. According to him, they ‘think in binary form’.

As soon as a person defines themselves as a supporter of Bitcoin, akin to national identity, it becomes an irreversible ideological obligation rather than an investment strategy. In fact, it is a religion. You ‘belong’ to a group of amoebas,” wrote Taleb.

When asked about the factors behind his change of attitude toward digital gold, he replied that no reasons were needed.

Earlier, Nassim Taleb had repeatedly supported Bitcoin and criticised the traditional financial system. In February 2019 he gave a lecture in Moscow, where he said the main task of the first cryptocurrency was to scare bankers.

In the summer of 2020, Taleb described the overwhelming majority of Bitcoin maximalists as “complete idiots”.

In February 2021, the philosopher said he sold his bitcoins and stated that digital gold had not materialized as a means of payment due to high volatility.
