NFL, NFLPA and Dapper Labs to launch NFT marketplace
The National Football League (NFL), the NFL Players Association, and Dapper Labs—the startup behind NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties—plan to launch an NFT marketplace, according to Sports Business Journal, citing anonymous sources.
According to the publication, the platform will launch in January 2022. The NFL and the NFL Players Association will become shareholders in Dapper Labs.
The Flow-based marketplace will feature a similar NBA Top Shot functionality—the buying and selling of football-themed NFT cards.
Earlier in September, Dapper Labs closed a funding round of $250 million from Google and a16z. Its valuation reached $7.6 billion.
In March, the startup raised $305 million from NBA stars and venture investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, which also backed Dapper Labs in 2018 together with Google and Samsung in a $15 million investment round.
In 2019, Dapper Labs raised $11.2 million to develop the Flow blockchain.
Previously, the team struck partnerships with the NBA, UFC, Dr. Suess and Warner Music Group.
