NFT painting by the Saint Petersburg-based Russian duo 404.zero sells for a record $90,000

The Saint Petersburg-based art duo 404.zero sold the painting Mars Miners for 6.6 million rubles ($90,000 at the time of the sale) as an NFT at a charity auction. сообщает Собака.ru.

Mars Miners is a digital canvas that evolves indefinitely through the artists’ algorithms. The painting was created live at the auction, with each new bid altering it in real time.

The algorithms used in the work were developed by artists Alexander Lezius and Christina Karpysheva over several years.

“The video-generation algorithm uses the same process as cryptocurrency mining. As a result, a unique video is produced that even we cannot reproduce again,” said 404.zero.

The painting became the most expensive NFT artwork in Russia. All proceeds were donated to the Center for Therapeutic Pedagogy “Special Childhood” and the charitable foundation “Lifestyle”.

For context, the most expensive NFT in Ukraine at that time was the meme “Eat Shit” from the YouTube channel “Телебаченная Торонто”. It sold for $2,500 on the day of the deal.

In early March, Russian artist Arseniy Pyzhenkov, known by the pseudonym Pokras Lampas, sold a photograph of the Chirkei Hydroelectric Station as an NFT for 16 ETH (about $28,000 at the time).
