Nicolas Cage has urged young actors to resist pressure from employers and to fight against the use of AI and EBDR for altering or manipulating their performances. He made this statement on stage at the 25th Newport Beach Film Festival, reports Deadline.
“[…] This technology wants to take away your tool […]”, he noted.
EBDR allows for the creation of a digital replica of an actor with their involvement. For example, a “de-aged” Indiana Jones portrayed by Harrison Ford in the 2023 film “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”
“Studios want to be able to adjust your face after filming. They can change your face, voice, lines, body language, performance,” Cage remarked.
Previously, the Hollywood actor stated that his cameo as Superman in the 2023 film “The Flash” did not resemble what he had played.
“It’s inhuman. Nothing can be more inhuman than artificial intelligence,” he noted.
Cage urged young actors to ensure that studios preserve their face, voice, body, imagination, and performance during filming.
In July, Cage expressed concern about the prospects of AI use in Hollywood.
In the same month, video game voice actors and motion capture specialists went on strike following failed negotiations regarding workers’ rights protection in relation to AI usage.
