Norwegian authorities seize $5.9 million stolen from Axie Infinity’s Ronin sidechain

Norwegian law enforcement seized 60 million kroner ($5.9 million) stolen from the Axie Infinity sidechain, Ronin. As reported by the National Authority for Investigation of Economic and Environmental Crime said.

Together with the FBI, investigators tracked most of the funds.

The agency said it was the largest cryptocurrency seizure initiated by Norwegian police.

In March 2022, North Korean hackers from the Lazarus Group exploited a vulnerability in the Ronin sidechain and withdrew crypto assets worth about $625 million. The majority of the funds were laundered through the Tornado Cash mixer, which was later sanctioned by the United States.

In September, law enforcement, with the assistance of the blockchain analytics company Chainalysis seized more than $30 million in the stolen cryptocurrency.

The Ronin network was offline for several months. Its restart took place in late June.
