Nvidia to throttle hash rate on three more GPU models

In the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 3070 and 3060 Ti GPUs, the hash rate will be reduced to render devices unprofitable for Ethereum mining. As reported on the manufacturer’s site.

\n

The devices will bear the label ‘Lite Hash Rate’ or ‘LHR’, so that consumers know exactly what they are getting.

\n

The graphics cards will go on sale at the end of May.

\n

Back in February, Nvidia halved the hash rate of the GeForce RTX 3060 desktop graphics card to cater to gamers’ needs.

\n

In March, the RTX 3060’s performance limits were bypassed with the help of an experimental Nvidia driver. The company confirmed the bug and removed the software from its site.

\n

To meet miners’ demand, the manufacturer developed the CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) range. The lower-end model in the CMP 30HX range was introduced in March. Its hash rate is 26 MH/s.

\n

The second-most powerful CMP 40HX chip from ASUS demonstrated strong results during internal testing. The maximum hash rate of a single device mining Ethereum stood at 43.77 MH/s instead of the manufacturer’s claimed 36 MH/s.
