Oculus CTO questions Meta’s crypto-friendliness
It is unlikely that Meta’s metaverse (the company formerly known as Facebook) will offer users a “completely open crypto world of things.” This was stated during the presentation by John Carmack, the chief technology officer of the VR software-maker Oculus.
He said that while transactions in digital assets are possible in the metaverse, it should not be regarded as a fully open crypto-friendly platform. Carmack noted that Meta users can expect various restrictions.
“Everyone agrees that you should have the ability to earn in the metaverse. Trade will become part of it, but I use adult entertainment as a test of the platform’s openness. If they are present, it will be a very open platform commercially, and we will probably not be there,” explained the Oculus CTO.
In October, Facebook rebranded and announced the creation of the metaverse, which it regards as “the next stage in the evolution of social connections”.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, within “five years or so” Facebook will stop being associated with the social network. The company will focus on developing a metaverse that runs on VR and AR headsets, mobile devices, and gaming consoles.
