Omni Network unveils Ethereum interoperability protocol

Startup Recursive has launched the Omni Network infrastructure to enable interaction between Ethereum second-layer networks such as Optimism, Arbitrum, zkSync Era or StarkNet built on ZK-Rollups.

The co-founder Austin King noted that the technology behind rollups has largely addressed Ethereum’s scalability challenges. However, the popularity of this path has led to fragmentation in the blockchain space due to the emergence of a multitude of zkEVM protocols.

«Omni is the unifying layer for all rollups. It will serve as the foundational infrastructure supporting all modular applications on Ethereum», said King.

Using the EigenLayer restaking protocol, the team promises to provide interoperability between different rollups with Layer-1 blockchain security.

According to the statement, in addition to functional compatibility of Ethereum applications across different L2 networks, Omni Network will offer developers the advantage of liquidity aggregation.

The project has raised $18 million to develop the interoperability protocol. Investors include Pantera Capital, Two Sigma Ventures, and Jump Crypto.

Back in March, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin called the integration of zkEVM into the L1 blockchain a necessary and inevitable step.
