OpenAI plans to release its new AI model, o3-mini, in roughly a couple of weeks, CEO Sam Altman said.

The entrepreneur thanked independent safety researchers who tested the model. Following user feedback, the release of the API for o3-mini and its addition to ChatGPT will happen at the same time.
The new system is inferior to o1 pro in many respects but delivers high speed, Altman said. He also denied reports circulating on X about a launch of artificial general intelligence (AGI) — a hypothetical form of AI capable of performing any intellectual task at a human level.

Earlier, OpenAI rolled out a feature that lets users set ChatGPT for more personalised default responses.
In December, the company unveiled the “thinking” AI model o3, the successor to o1. It also presented o3-mini, scheduling its release for early 2025.
