OpenAI has launched Sora 2, an updated version of its audio and video generator. Alongside this, the company introduced a social application called Sora, where users can create videos featuring themselves and friends, sharing them in a TikTok-style algorithmic feed.
This is the Sora app, powered by Sora 2.
Inside the app, you can create, remix, and bring yourself or your friends into the scene through cameos—all within a customizable feed designed just for Sora videos.

The application is available for download on iOS, but currently operates on an invite-only basis in the US and Canada. Users can register and await a push notification for launch. Initially, priority is given to ChatGPT Pro subscribers.
For Android, access to Sora 2 will be available via the website sora.com—after receiving an invitation code.
The company shared examples of the new neural network’s work, which better adheres to the laws of physics, making videos more realistic.

“The model is more physically accurate and realistic than previous systems, representing a significant step forward in controllability. Additionally, synchronized sound is now available,” the company stated.
The blog notes that previous neural networks were “overly optimistic”—they could distort objects and warp reality to successfully execute a prompt. For instance, if a basketball player misses, the ball might suddenly teleport into the hoop. In Sora 2, it will bounce off the backboard.
The new application features a function called cameos, allowing users to insert themselves into any scene. These clips can then be shared with friends.
“We believe that a social app built around the cameo feature is the best way to experience the magic of Sora 2,” the company wrote.
To form algorithmic recommendations, OpenAI will consider user activity in Sora, their location (determined by IP address), interaction history with posts, and ChatGPT conversations. The latter can be disabled.
Sora 2 and the Sora app are designed with safety measures in mind. The firm reported the use of watermarks and metadata on the origin of each video, image ownership rights, balanced content protection measures, and stricter precautions for teenagers.
Sora includes parental controls. This feature allows disabling infinite scrolling for children, personalizing recommendations, and limiting who can send private messages.
In September, OpenAI launched a special version of ChatGPT with parental controls for users under 18.
The enhancement of safety measures began following a lawsuit from a family who blamed the chatbot for a tragedy involving their son.
