Opinion: AI will surpass humans, but not soon
Machine intelligence will surpass human intellect, but for now it is far from doing so. That view was expressed by Nobel Prize-winning economist and author of the bestseller Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman in an interview with The Guardian.
“How people will adapt to it [artificial intelligence] is an interesting problem, but it concerns my children and grandchildren,” the expert added.
Kahneman argues that human thinking is linear by nature and cannot quickly respond to exponential growth in technology. Humanity will face widespread disruptions as it adopts it, the expert added.
In his view, artificial intelligence will replace many professions.
“Clearly, some medical specialties are at risk of being replaced, especially in terms of diagnostics,” Kahneman said.
The expert added that artificial intelligence will cast doubt on human leadership qualities as it learns to make more measured decisions based on their effectiveness.
In April 2021, machine-learning pioneer Michael I. Jordan urged against labeling everything as artificial intelligence.
In March, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that in the next decade AI will create enough wealth to pay every American $13,500 a year. To finance this, he proposed a 2.5% tax on corporations and land.
Dan Wright, CEO of DataRobot urged for “the democratisation of artificial intelligence”. According to him, most often companies fail at implementing AI at the data-preparation stage, and for the industry it is crucial to help them navigate this stage.
