Leaders, founders and developers of Belarusian IT companies signed open letter against violence in the country.

“We are not policy experts, but we are experts in the tech business. The country is creating conditions in which tech business cannot function. Startups are not born in an atmosphere of fear and violence. Startups are born in an atmosphere of freedom and openness,” the letter says.

Representatives of the IT industry urged an end to violence against peaceful residents, the release of political prisoners, new elections and free access to information for citizens.

More than 500 people signed the letter.

The internet was virtually unavailable on the day of the Belarusian presidential election and for several days afterward.
