Paris court opens preliminary hearings in the Vinnik case

On Monday, a Paris court began preliminary hearings in the case of Alexander Vinnik, accused in France of money laundering and extortion. RIA Novosti reports.

A substantive examination of the case is scheduled for October 19-22.

French authorities accuse the Russian of ‘from January 1, 2016 to June 14, 2018, and in another period’ engaging in extortion and money laundering on French soil.

Alexander Vinnik was extradited to France in early 2020, where a Paris court ordered him kept in custody. Prior to that, he was detained for a long time in a Greek prison.

In August , it became known that Vinnik’s case had been transferred to a French correctional court.

Beside France, the Greek side granted extradition requests for the suspect to the United States and Russia.
