Paris Saint-Germain tokenises Neymar and David Beckham

Blockchain startup Sorare has signed a contract with the French football club Paris Saint-Germain.

Paris Saint-Germain has become the hundredth club to join the Ethereum-based platform.

During the season, Sorare will issue unique NFT tokens in the form of cards depicting each player, including Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, and the club’s veteran David Beckham.

The tokens can be collected, sold, and used to participate in virtual tournaments with cryptocurrency prizes.

Founded in 2019, the Sorare startup has already attracted 40,000 users worldwide. In August 2020, sales of digital cards brought the company €735,000. In the current financial year, Sorare expects revenue of €5 million.

So far, the most expensive token sold through the platform is a Cristiano Ronaldo card valued at 58 ETH (€18,000).

In the summer the platform attracted €3.5 million in funding from e.ventures, Partech, Fabric Ventures and Sementic Ventures.

Earlier in February, Italian Juventus and Moscow’s Spartak released digital cards depicting footballers that can be traded on the Sorare platform.
